Two total objectors in military arrest Patrick Sander & Jan-Patrick Ehlert under military arrest -- report from War Resisters' International. 10 October 2008 |

German total objector Silvio Walther today began a fourth disciplinary arrest, this time of 21 days. It is the usual practice of the German military to impose consecutive disciplinary arrest on total objectors, up to a total of 63 days - and in some cases even 84 days - before the case is passed on to the criminal justice system for criminal prosecution, which can in theory lead to imprisonment of up to five years. In practice, imprisonment has been rare in recent years, with most sentences either being suspended sentences or fines. 18 July 2008 |

| Franz Jägerstätter - patron saint of refuseniks! With astonishing courage Franz taught us how to say ‘No’ to immoral promises and immoral wars. As citizens, taxpayers, or soldiers, and above all as Christians, the best honour we can pay him is to learn in our time, whatever the cost, to say NO to war and to build instead a culture of peace.” 21 November 2007 | |||

Support total objector Jonas Grote: the repeated military arrest is clearly used to force him to change his convictions. This is unconstitutional according to the German constitution, and a violation of article 18 paragraph 2 of the ICCPR. 14 June 2007 |

Not
in a soldier's name He wasn't a pacifist. He'd done his military training. Franz Jägerstätter was a devout Catholic, a peasant farmer with a wife and children. He knew the difference between a just and an unjust war. When Hitler attacked Russia, he said: "This is aggression. I will not serve." 21 March 2003 |
