Message from Ron Kovic to the meeting Refusing to Kill - an evening with Refuseniks from around the world, London 12 March 2004

Congratulations on your courageous and important meeting in London tonight!

As a Vietnam veteran, and anti war activist who has spent the last 36 years of my life paralyzed from my mid-chest down because of the Vietnam war. I want you to know what a tremendous inspiration you have been to me, and to all of us here in the United States.

The American anti-war movement, and the millions of our citizens who continue to oppose our government's occupation of Iraq have been deeply moved by your bravery, and willingness to resist, to refuse, even in the face of threats, imprisonment and ridicule

You have sent a powerful, and uncompromising message to millions of people around the world choosing love over hatred, caring not killing, building rather than destroying. Your heroic voices of conscience will reach far beyond this room tonight! with hope and faith that this world that we love can truly become a more beautiful and peaceful place!

Most sincerely

Ron Kovic, author, "Born on the Fourth of July"
