Amir Paster was sentenced to 28 days for saying: “I don’t want to participate in operations that harm civilians in Lebanon”.

While Israel invades Lebanon, Israeli soldiers are being called up to take part in the invasion.  Some are refusing: Amir Paster, following the lead of Itzik Shabbat, is the second person to refuse.  Paster has shown that people can have feelings for each other despite differences in religion and language – he has been punished with a 28-day jail sentence.

People are being forced to kill each other all over the world by their governments; those refusing to kill are being threatened with imprisonment.

Just two days ago dozens of children were killed by bombs dropped by Israeli planes.  The ongoing battle, blockade and invasion can be put to an end by the activities of the anti-military movement.  It is possible to prevent the invasion by cutting off the human resource of wars – soldiers – that’s why Shabbat’s and Paster’s actions are important.  They also refute the lie that all Israelis support the army of occupation – there are also peace lovers and we know that their numbers growing. We are with them.

The way to stop war is to refuse to be a human resource for it.  We declare that we stand with Itzik Shabbat and Amir Paster.  Anti-militarists have never stopped speaking out and they will not be stopped.

Paster must be released immediately; the attack and blockade of Lebanon must be stopped.

We call on everyone to refuse military service.

With all respect,

Anti-militarists
