LETTER FROM SIÂN CWPER, PEACE TAX SEVEN

 4 October 2008

I am a member of a group of seven people, called the Peace Tax Seven, who are taking the British Government to the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. We say that they are infringing our human rights to freedom of conscience and religion by making us pay for war with our taxes. (See our leaflet.)

I have been withholding 10% of my taxes for 5 years now, because I’m not prepared to pay for war. There will be a case in Caernarfon County Court on Tuesday 7th October at 11.20 to decide whether or not £2,388.52 should be taken from my account. £2,333.52 is for HM Revenue & Customs, and £55 for court costs.

My bank is very kindly intending to also charge me £55 for the transaction.

I can have 10 minutes to explain my stand, and why I haven’t paid and don’t want to pay.

I hope this will be of interest to you.
