Department of Corrections Secretary Wetzel:
GIVE MUMIA AND ALL OTHER INFECTED PA PRISONERS THE DRUG THAT CURES HEPATITIS C
DO NOT APPEAL JUDGE MARIANI'S RULING

l A Federal Court Judge ruled on Jan. 3 that not treating prisoners with chronic hepatitis C is barbaric and unconstitutional.

l The Judge ordered the Department of Corrections to treat Mumia Abu-Jamal with the Hep C cure within 21 days.  

l Prisoners have already died from the delay of treatment. If the DOC appeals this decision, it will extend Mumia's suffering and dangerous deterioration of health and it might result in an appeals court reversal.

Please call DOC Secretary Wetzel

§  Tell him to immediately give the Hep C cure to Mumia and all other PA prisoners with the deadly disease.

§  Ask him NOT to appeal Judge Mariani's decision.

Abu-Jamal v. Wetzel - Court orders hepatitis C treatment for Mumia!

Victory - late this afternoon Judge Robert Mariani of the federal court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania ordered officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections to treat Mumia Abu-Jamal's chronic hepatitis C with the latest direct-acting antiviral medications that have a 95% cure rate.

This is the first case in the country in which a federal court has ordered prison officials to provide an incarcerated patient with the new medications that came on the market in 2013.

We expect an appeal, but for now this is a major victory.
