Thousands rallied at womens prisons across the state, fighting for releases due to overcrowding and unsafe living conditions inside the prisons.

Hundreds demonstrated in front of the prison in Chowchilla.

Demonstrators are upset with the state's prison system, specifically the women's facilities.

The protesters marched about two miles from the Valley State Prison to the Central CA Womens Prison.

Recently, VSP transitioned from a womens facility to a men's.

Protesters say it's led to overcrowding, unsafe living conditions, and a lack of services for women.

The Central California Womens Facility says the prison has roughly 3700 inmates.

Officials say the accusations against them are false, that all inmates have a bed and the facility isn't overcrowded.

Similar rallies were held in Los Angeles, and at the MacArthur BART station in Oakland.
