CALL FOR MEN TO SUPPORT THE
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S STRIKE

We welcome and will be actively supporting the International Women’s Strike on the 8th of March.  There haves to be millions of men around the world who recognize that if women partners, sisters, daughters, mothers and friends are not free from violence, none of us are safe.

This is the time to show our solidarity with women of all nationalities and all sectors, including asylum seekers, trans women, and sex workers.  We call on men to join us in support of women's campaigning and resistance:

·        Against men’s violence against women and children in whatever form it takes, notably domestic, sexual and military violence, including rape.

·        Against state interference in women’s control of their own reproductive lives.

·        Against racism and xenophobia and in support of the millions of refugees, who are overwhelmingly women and children.

·        Against war and the destruction of the environment, whose main victims are women and children, predominantly people of colour.

·        Against the poverty, austerity and exploitation being forced upon those of us with the least, beginning with women and children, and for pay equity.  If we allow women to work for less or no wages, we will all work for less and increasingly for nothing.

·        For a living wage for the caring work for children, partners, parents and the community overwhelmingly done by women, which is essential to all of survival but is unpaid or underpaid.  Men need to take on much more of this work to begin to create the caring society we all need and want.

We in Payday/Refusing to Kill are an international multiracial network of straight and queer men, including trans men, working with the Global Women’s Strike.

In London we will speak out in support of women who are fighting to keep their children in the face of the courts and other state bodies giving custody to neglectful, vindictive and violent men.  We will speak out in support of soldiers, women and men, who refuse to be killers, rapists and torturers, and the whistleblowers, women and men who expose all kinds of violence, abuse and corruption.

We would be delighted to hear from you.  Please let us know if you agree with this statement. Let us know if and how you or your organization are involved with the International Women’s Strike.  Let’s keep in touch, and make a network that is ready to support and work with women’s organizing, and thereby help change the world for our sisters, our children, our communities and ourselves.

INTERNATIONAL APPEAL:

MEN ARE SIGNING ON IN SUPPORT OF THE

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S STRIKE

On 8 March, women in 46 countries will make their power felt by going on strike to protest against violence, poverty, discrimination, exploitation, war, the destruction of the environment . . . and for a caring society.

There have to be millions of men around the world who recognize that if women partners, sisters, daughters, mothers and friends are not free from violence, none of us is safe.

We will above all show solidarity to this women’s initiative because we need to unite our power with women’s power to defeat the 1% that exploits us all. The international women’s strike (IWS) is part of the growing movement of the 99%. It is an occasion to campaign together with women and build a movement that can finally end the sexism and the racism that have divided and therefore defeated us for too long.

MAKE YOUR SUPPORT VISIBLE BY SIGNING THIS APPEAL

AND SPELLING OUT WHY YOU SUPPORT THE IWS

We also invite men to:

+ join the actions of the IWS if appropriate.

+ give whatever practical support by doing childcare, housework, technical and other work and by providing financial support whenever possible

+ circulate this appeal, our statement, and other information about the IWS.

It’s men in Argentina during last year’s mass protests against male violence. Banner says: ‘We men say no more gender violence, no more assaults against our compañeras!’ (which can mean friend, comrade, partner)
